The Full Tour

Just popping in for a moment to point you to an article from Orlando Attractions Magazine: Full tour of Legoland Florida – A look at all the attractions, stores and restaurants

They “took photos and videos of just about every ride, show, store and restaurant.” It is well worth a look.

One More Week

There is only one week until the official public opening of LEGOLAND® Florida. The countdown timer in the right sidebar has been switched over to hours, minutes and seconds! As I write this there is less than 170 hours until the gates swing open.

Over the past weeks the park has held some test runs by allowing certain groups to visit and check things out. Richard Mullins from the Tampa Tribune attended one soft opening yesterday with his 8 year old daughter to give the park a true test.

Sure, the theme park near Winter Haven sounds like a lot of fun. Smaller rides built just for kids, zip lines, a Lego factory, a pirate waterskiing show, deep-fried apple strips dunked in sugar.

But what do actual kids think of the park?

Should you plunk down close to $100 for an adult ticket (with parking) and just a bit less for a kid’s ticket?

Will the lines be insane?

Will there be enough bathrooms?

We set out to answer those questions the only way possible — with a real life kid.

The official opening day is Oct. 15.

So I am taking my daughter Anna, age 8, to the park today for a preview day.

Click on the article to see how Anna rates the various rides and attractions.

Area businesses are anxious to see what the opening will do for their bottom lines. The Ledger says, “Legoland Has Region In Holding Pattern.”

There are a few Legoland billboards on U.S. 27 and two stores selling Legoland tickets, but many local owners and managers said they are in a holding pattern. They are waiting to see visitor numbers and its impact on stores before they hire more people or increase their stock.

But Legoland’s reach is national.

Partnerships with AAA and Pepsi, for instance, show the kind of national interest Legoland has that was missing in the last years of Cypress Gardens, according to an industry expert.

Publix Super Markets will be offering discounted admission passes, and other businesses are gearing up for the grand opening.

Annual pass holders have even less time to wait. Preview days are October 12th, 13th, and 14th.

Right Around The Corner

Can you feel the excitement? It’s October 1st and that means that we are just two weeks away from opening day! Orlando Attractions Magazine was among the members of the media invited to a preview that included a peek at the water show:

Today the park is enjoying a “soft opening.” From the Orlando Sentinel:

The rides at Legoland Florida are up and ready to roll, as Central Florida’s newest theme park prepares for its first guests this weekend — the contractors who built the park and the families of the park’s 1,000 employees.

“We’re in full training mode. Our merchandise people are filling in the stores, our food people are practicing food preparation,” Jill Swidler, the park’s marketing director, said Wednesday. “So we’ll be ready to go Oct. 15.”

Leave your thoughts in the comments. Have a great weekend!

Three Weeks

Opening day is getting closer by the minute! The official opening day is three days from tomorrow, and construction is wrapping up the final details. Ten days ago some of the press were introduced to the all but completed Miniland, including the area featuring Florida landmarks. Here is a video from the Lakeland Ledger featuring General Manager Adrian Jones:

And a second video from ABC News:

If you have purchased annual passes they can be picked up today and tomorrow from 9am to 5pm, and Sunday from noon to 5pm. Next week, 9/25 through 9/30, passes can be picked up from noon to 5pm. All pass holders need to be present, as photos are included on the pass.
